外文标题：Talking of Roads and Buses- India, China, Australia
Though this article started as a description of Nan County from where Mr. Herbert Cheng had sent me the photographs but I digressed in the previous article and my thoughts have further led me away from Nan County to everywhere, deriving similarities and differences between Indian and Chinese development and living standards.
He says that Motorcycle is cheap and convenient conveyance as the countryside roads are not wide enough for the cars. In India too, in the countryside, towns and suburbs, scooters and motorcycles are mainly used. In China though, the electric scooters are very popular, in India because of acute shortage of electricity, I don’t think they have become very popular in small towns and the villages.
In China be it a small town or a big city, there's a wide, tiled space in front of the rows of the shops for the convenience of the shoppers and the shopkeepers.
Further while writing about the countryside, Mr. Cheng says
“ I don't know why solar heaters are so popular in the countryside. The summers are very hot here and almost every family has an air conditioner and so sometimes the power is not enough.”
In India, it doesn’t get so cold in winter (except in the north) that geyser is a necessity but for using a solar heater one needs an arrangement for pumping the water up, that means a pump and availability of electricity. Though air-conditioners are becoming very popular in India too but they come with hefty electricity bills and huge initial costs. In India, air-cooler is still very popular because in summer the air is very dry.
